MLB All-Star Game live score, updates, highlights from baseball’s 2023 Midsummer Classic
The All-Star break can be exactly that for most teams — or it can be just less time on the field for others.
Just ask the Braves and Rangers, who are among the most well-represented teams in baseball history at the All-Star Game. Atlanta is sending eight players to Seattle, tied for the National League record for most All-Stars in a single year. The Rangers, on the other hand, are the first team since 1976 to have five starters in an All-Star lineup.
These stacked lineups will begin the 2023 All-Star Game by facing a pair of early Cy Young contenders, with Arizona’s Zac Gallen taking the hill for the National League and New York’s Gerrit Cole on the bump in the American League.
The All-Star Game will feature plenty of the biggest stars in the sport. Shohei Ohtani will bat second despite being unable to pitch, and highlights a lineup that already features stars like Marcus Semien, Corey Seager and Randy Arozarena. In the National League, MVP frontrunners Corbin Carroll and Ronald Acuna Jr. lead an NL lineup that has two former MVPs in Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

MLB All-Star Game 2023 live updates, highlights
(All times Eastern)
8:27 p.m. End top first: Mookie Betts grounds out to second, and Cole dodges a few hard-hit balls — everything was hit at least 99.7 mph — to post a 1-2-3 inning.
8:26 p.m.: Absolutely unbelievable start to the All-Star Game. Freddie Freeman hits a hard liner to left, but Randy Arozarena this time makes a stellar catch in left to rob Freeman of a hit. That ball had an xBA of .530, and would have left five parks.
You’re joking…

8:25 p.m.: That ball had an expected batting average of .570, and had Cole been pitching in Yankee Stadium, that would have been a home run.
8:24 p.m.: An All-Star play to start the All-Star Game. Acuna gives the second pitch he sees a ride out to right, but Adolis Garcia, battling the sun, makes a leaping catch against the wall to secure the first out.

8:24 p.m.: Gerrit Cole’s first pitch to Ronald Acuna Jr. is watched down and away for a ball to start the All-Star Game.
8:15 p.m.: Two All-Star reserves — Wander Franco and Shane McClanahan of the Rays — did not have their names announced over the loud speaker after following up the hometown Mariner All-Stars. The Rays are making sure people know they were missed.

8:11 p.m.: Some huge ovations as a pair of legendary Mariners and Hall of Famers Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez take the field to throw out the first pitches of the All-Star Game. There aren’t many players more beloved in Seattle than those two.
