Which Canadian players are at the French Open 2023?
Felix Auger Aliassime
World number 10 Auger Aliassime arrived aiming to build on his best ever run in Paris when he reached the quarterfinals in 2022.
He was hindered, however, by a hamstring issue and stomach virus that caused him to call for a doctor midway through his first-round match – not to mention the 30 winners hit by Fabio Fognini in a straight-sets win for the man ranked 120 places below Auger Aliassime.
Denis Shapovalov
After making the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, 24-year-old Shapovalov would have targeted his first sustained run at his least successful grand slam tournament to boost his ambitions of returning to the top 20.
The world number 31 beat American Brandon Nakashima in five sets and Matteo Arnaldi in four, but then had the misfortune to encounter top seed Carlos Alcaraz, who ousted him in straight sets in Shapovalov’s first third-round appearance at the tournament.

Bianca Andreescu
2019 US Open winner Andreescu suffered an excruciating ankle injury at the Miami Open 2023 in March, making her best ever run at the French Open all the more admirable.
Andreescu recovered from a set behind to beat 18th seed Victoria Azarenka in the first round, then knocked out American Emma Navarro in straight sets to set up a third-round encounter with Lesia Tsurenko, which she lost 6-1, 6-1.
Leylah Fernandez
As a 19-year-old in 2022, Fernandez enjoyed her best run at a Grand Slam since playing in the US Open final the previous year, reaching the quarterfinals in Paris.
After beating 21st seed Magda Linette in the first round this time out, the world number 36 suffered a surprise exit to Clara Tauson — ranked 127 — over three sets.
Rebecca Marino
Eighteen years after turning professional, Marino headed to Paris aiming to improve on a run of three wins in nine matches and reach the third round for the second time in her career.
The world number 81 faced Diana Shnaider in the first round and was knocked out in 74 minutes by an opponent ranked 27 places below her.
