Can he do it? There are few that can match the 2020 champion at his peak. But the 27-year-old has looked a mere mortal in the cockpit since returning from the leg fracture he suffered during a snowmobile accident earlier in the year.
There’s no better time than now, though. NASCAR’s most popular driver could prove its most clutch. He just needs a chance.

The Ally 400 will be broadcast on NBC in the United States. Canadian viewers can follow the action on TSN5.
Sunday’s race represents the first one to be aired away from Fox’s family of networks. NBC will handle the coverage for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs.
