Barcelona sit 11 points clear of Real Madrid after being held to a goalless draw by Getafe, who will be grateful to have taken a valuable point in their battle against relegation from La Liga.
Madrid, with their mind on the midweek Champions League quarterfinal second leg, went on the road Saturday and beat Cadiz 2-0 thanks to two late goals.
In the race for the other top four spots, Atletico Madrid solidified their place with a sixth straight win against Almeria. Real Sociedad are hanging on to fourth place despite a loss at Athletic Club, but that result allowed Real Betis to gain ground in a bid for a top-four place after they won their match.
At the bottom of the table, there are seven clubs within five points, all hoping to avoid joining Elche in the bottom three places. Two of those teams did battle on Sunday, when Sevilla won at Valencia.
