Unseeded duo Elina Svitolina and Marketa Vondrousova will battle it out for a spot in the 2023 Wimbledon ladies’ singles final on Thursday.
The pair, who both won in three sets against top-five ranked players in the quarterfinals, came into this year’s tournament with little expectation but both now sit just one match away from their first final at SW19.
Svitolina has arguably produced the story of the event this year. Just nine months after she gave birth to her and fellow tennis player Gael Monfils’ first child, the Ukrainian star has stunned the Wimbledon crowd and rivals to reach just the third grand slam semifinal of her career.
Opponent Vondrousova won’t be in the mood to be a part of her potential fairy-tale run to the final, though, as she chases her own success on Centre Court. The 24-year-old Czech has reached just one grand slam final before and will be hoping to take victory here in order to reach the previous heights of her budding career.
The Sporting News is on hand to keep you up to date with all the action on Centre Court.

Not to be outdone by her opponent, Vondrousova also sees out her first service game of this clash without any real concerns. She looks very comfortable in coming into the net so far which could be a huge plus in this match.
Elina Svitolina *1-0 Marketa Vondrousova
It’s Svitolina who will get us underway here with the first service game of this semifinal clash and it’s an ideal start for the Ukrainian.
She wins a great opening rally between the pair to make it 30-0 before seeing out the opening game as Vondrousova fails to return her final serve.

13:00 p.m. BST/ 8:00 a.m. ET: After plenty of rain delays over the past few weeks, it looks like we’re set for a largely dry day today across the two women’s semifinals so expect the roof to be open.
The current forecast says we might get some heavy showers from 15:00 BST onwards but hopefully that’ll change!
12:45 p.m. BST/ 7.45 a.m. ET: Whilst this match is between two players who are currently ‘unseeded’ as we’ve mentioned before, both have huge pedigree in tennis.
28-year-old Svitolina has been ranked as high as world No. 3 during her career, whilst Vondrousova rose to world No. 14 back in July 2019. The pair also have 18 singles titles between them and have made five grand slam semi final appearances combined, including this latest one where they meet for the sixth time in their careers.
12:15 p.m. BST/ 7.15 a.m. ET: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ coverage of Elina Svitolina versus Marketa Vondrousova in the semifinals of Wimbledon 2023.
The two unseeded players have so far provided plenty of shocks throughout the tournament and both will be desperate to reach their first ever SW19 final this year.
